Rinaldi Homes Builds Healthier Community Using VOC-Absorbing Gypsum Board

(Mississauga, Ont.) – A new upscale townhome development by Rinaldi Homes of St. Catharines, Ontario, features CertainTeed’s revolutionary AirRenew® Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Gypsum Board. The development consists of 26 bungalow townhomes situated in a private cul-de-sac in Rinaldi Homes’ Coyle Creek Estates. The community showcases their expertise in creating enviable, sustainable living spaces.

Rinaldi Homes is an official Holmes Approved Homes Partner Builder—a residential program initiated by healthy home advocate and trusted contractor, Mike Holmes. The program implements Holmes’ mandate in new-home construction and sustainable building, including specific building products, installation methods and building practices to ensure enhanced durability, energy-efficiency, resistance, sound protection, as well as higher indoor air quality. CertainTeed’s AirRenew Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Gypsum Board is a designated Holmes Approved Product.

“We are always looking at new products and new technologies that help us build homes that are higher quality, lower maintenance and more environmentally friendly than those built to standard practices. Knowing this, Mike Holmes brought AirRenew to our attention, which is a Holmes Approved Product. What we saw intrigued us,” said Victor Krmpotic, sales and marketing manager at Rinaldi Homes. “AirRenew is a great product that helps us build healthier houses, and we are excited to use it in our new townhomes.”

Krmpotic says that for three generations the family-run Rinaldi Homes has focused on a “hands-on” approach to building, from design to construction and after-sales service, which gives them the flexibility and versatility to respond quickly to the needs of their clients. The company is already committed to creating healthy indoor space by using low-VOC finishes, so incorporating AirRenew wallboard with formaldehyde-scavenging technology is a logical next step.

Specifically this construction project will use AirRenew Essential and AirRenew M2Tech® IAQ drywall. AirRenew Essential cleans indoor air in rooms where mould and moisture resistance are not required, while AirRenew M2Tech actively cleans the air plus provides enhanced moisture and mould resistance in rooms where this may be a problem, such as kitchens and bathrooms. Both products are part of CertainTeed Gypsum’s Wall to Wall Solutions program, providing high-performance interior wall systems to meet the functional needs of every room in the home.

“It’s evident in Rinaldi Homes’ work that they take great care to build beautiful, healthy homes that last generations. Their decision to use AirRenew gypsum board will only serve to further this effort,” said Morgan Waller, director of marketing for CertainTeed Gypsum - Canada. “We are pleased to be working with them and to help create better indoor air quality for their homebuyers.”

AirRenew IAQ Gypsum Board products offer a cost-effective solution for healthier interior environments in residential construction and remodeling projects. AirRenew products are GREENGUARD® Gold certified and can contribute to indoor environmental quality, recycled materials, and innovation in design credits for green projects. The products contain up to 99 percent total recycled content and may provide regional materials, depending on project location. And, most importantly, they handle the same as regular gypsum boards and do not require special tools to install or finish. The entire portfolio of AirRenew products has received Environmental Claims Validation (ECV) from UL Environment for permanent formaldehyde absorption.
