New Rx Symphony® Ceiling Panels From CertainTeed Offer Optimized Performance For Healthcare Settings

(Valley Forge, Pa.) – CertainTeed Ceilings has a new family of high-performance ceiling solutions specifically designed for today’s healthcare facilities — Rx Symphony® ceiling panels. The new product line is comprised of: Rx Symphony g, a gypsum-based panel; Rx Symphony f, a VOC compliant fiberglass-based panel; and, Rx Symphony m, a mineral fiber-based panel.

All Rx Symphony panels are optimized to meet performance guidelines set by The Facilities Guidelines Institute’s “Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities” (2010 Edition). Similar to the popular existing Symphony product line, Rx Symphony panels provide superior acoustical performance and visual appeal with added durability to withstand the demands of high-traffic healthcare settings.

Rx Symphony panels provide superior washability, stain resistance and scratch resistance, necessary for hospital emergency rooms, nurse stations and patient rooms. The panels also feature CertainTeed’s enhanced Overtone® finish, which provides a brighter, more monolithic appearance. Tested according to clean room class 4 (ISO 14644-1), the panels emit virtually no particles and are VOC compliant to the California Department of Public Health Standard Method Version 1.1, 2010 — all of which contribute to healthy indoor air.

“Specifying a solution that meets the durability and acoustical needs of hospitals and other healthcare settings, while also ensuring high indoor air quality and creating inviting interior spaces can be a difficult task,” said Dawn Chittick, director of marketing for CertainTeed Ceilings. “Rx Symphony addresses all of these needs. It is low-emitting, extremely easy to clean and can stand up to the routine bumps and scratches that are inevitable in these busy facilities.”

Rx Symphony f panels contain 29 to 34 percent post-consumer recycled content and offer an NRC of 0.95, which is appropriate for areas such as waiting rooms where superior sound absorption may be required.

Rx Symphony m panels contain 72 percent total recycled content and offer an NRC of 0.70 and CAC of 35. Rx Symphony g ceiling panels can provide a CAC of 42, reducing unwanted noise passing between adjoining spaces through the plenum. All Rx Symphony panels have a light reflectance of 0.90, helping to maximize conventional lighting and cut down on energy use.

All Rx Symphony panels contribute to LEED credits, as well. Rx Symphony fiberglass and mineral fiber panels are backed by Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), offering reliable product transparency. Certified by UL Environment, the EPDs evaluate life cycle assessment data for the products, including usage of raw materials and recycled content, packaging, health aspects and end-of-life impact—providing independent verification of the data in accordance with ISO 14025.

As experts in the science of sound, CertainTeed Ceilings serves as a single source for high-quality ceilings that create acoustically friendly, aesthetically captivating environments. Encompassing the Performa, Ecophon and Gyptone brands along with Decoustics — a leader in high-precision, custom-engineered solutions — the company offers the perfect balance of innovation, budget and beauty with products that range from basic high-performance panels to premium, customizable systems.
