New CertaSpray® X Open Cell Spray Foam Insulation Couples One-Step Fire Protection with Complete Indoor Comfort

(Valley Forge, Pa.) – With CertainTeed's new CertaSpray® X (CSX) Open Cell Spray Foam Insulation, contractors can save time by only needing one product to stop drafts and noise while ensuring code-compliant fire protection. The newest addition to the CertaSpray line meets the requirements of AC377 Appendix X, so it can be installed in attics and crawl spaces without the need for an additional ignition barrier or intumescent coating—providing one-step protection that easily meets building code requirements on time and on budget.

"One-step application means a whole day saved on the job site. Crews no longer need to return the next day to apply an intumescent paint or coating or take up valuable truck space with extra product," said Ken Forsythe, senior product manager for CertainTeed Insulation. "By streamlining how contractors approach fire protection in spray foam applications, we've made it easier than ever to install complete comfort in every project."

By adding the ignition barrier during the manufacturing process, where environmental conditions are carefully controlled, the resulting product offers more consistent protection than ignition barriers applied in the field. This reduces the risk of callbacks or failed inspections. Furthermore, CSX cures to a distinctive mocha color, making it easily identifiable to building inspectors.

CertaSpray X is a polyurethane foam that is sprayed into a building cavity and quickly expands to fill voids and form an effective air seal, which reduces energy loss and maintains high indoor air quality. The product meets ICC Evaluation Services, Inc., (ICC-ES) code requirements for thermal and moisture protection as designated in report number ESR-3759. CSX minimizes thermal bridging, helping save up to 20 percent in heating and cooling costs, and can contribute to the requirements for an Energy Star® home. The product's continuous seal also enhances acoustic control by virtually eliminating vibrations that can carry sound through materials and into interior spaces—another important factor for complete occupant comfort.

CertainTeed is an industry leader in technical support and training for spray foam contractors and offers a CertainTeed Credentialed Contractors™ (C3) program for installers of its CertaSpray products, helping them boost business and stand out in the marketplace. The company also offers a mobile CertaSpray Field Troubleshooting app for iOS and Android™ devices, putting troubleshooting and safety information at installers' fingertips where they need it most – on the jobsite.
