New CertainTeed® DryRoof™TU Tile Underlayment Keeps Water Out, Eases Installation
(Valley Forge, Pa.) – Offering advanced, long-term weather protection, DryRoof™ TU tile underlayment is the newest addition to CertainTeed Corporation’s comprehensive portfolio of roofing products. Its self-adhering, high strength polyester fabric surface with SBS-modified asphalt is designed for use under foam-applied clay tile and reduces installation time by eliminating the need for nailing. Formulated to resist temperatures up to 250 degrees Fahrenheit, DryRoof TU is an ideal choice for hot, humid climates.
“Tile roofs are prone to moisture penetration from wind driven precipitation, so we made certain DryRoof TU provides a heavy duty moisture barrier that will hold up over time,” says Bob Gardiner, vice president of marketing for CertainTeed Roofing. “Its self-adhering properties are also a time-saver for contractors, speeding installation.”
Its adhesive bottom surface is protected with a disposable silicone-coated release film, which is split down the middle for easier application. Wood roof deck priming is rarely necessary, as the 3-foot wide, 61-foot long rolls can be laid out directly over a clean, dry surface. Once applied, it is recommended to install a permanent roof surface as soon as possible, however, DryRoof TU allows a maximum exposure time of three months.
DryRoof TU is resistant to punctures or tears and meets or exceeds the requirements of ASTM D1970, Type II. It is warranted against manufacturing defects and is guaranteed to remain watertight for the same period as the warranty duration carried by the tile applied above it – up to a maximum of 50 years.
