Lowe’s and CertainTeed Team Up to Help Make Tile Projects a Breeze

Diamondback® Tile Backer, the Superior, Cost-Effective Substrate for Kitchens, Bathrooms and Utility Rooms, Now Available at Select Stores

(Tampa, Fla.) – CertainTeed and Lowe’s have teamed up to offer the latest in backer board technology for easier, faster and more cost-effective tile installation projects. Reinforced with embedded glass mats for added strength, moisture and mold resistance, Diamondback® Tile Backer features a patent-pending polymer coating with a unique textured surface that creates a strong bond, reducing tile slippage during installation. The superior substrate is now available in select stores throughout the Midwest and Western U.S.

“We are very excited about this partnership with Lowe’s, which makes our innovative tile backer much more accessible to the homeowner DIY and contractor customer base,” said Kelly Kuethe, marketing manager—retail segment, for CertainTeed Gypsum.

Diamondback weighs 40 percent less than traditional cement boards and is much easier to handle, cut and install, saving installers valuable time. Highly mold resistant, CertainTeed’s patented, proprietary Embedded Glass Reinforced Gypsum (EGRG®) technology eliminates the need for an additional moisture barrier, reducing overall installation cost as well. Ideal for countertops, flooring, walls and ceilings in bathrooms, kitchens and other high-moisture interior areas, it is suitable for use in wet and non-wet installations in both residential and light commercial applications.

The 1/4-inch Diamondback tile backer is available in the standard 3- by 5-foot size. Diamondback is also offered in 1/2-inch for use in wall and ceiling applications. In addition, it has achieved GREENGUARD® GOLD Certification and is backed by a limited, lifetime warranty for residential applications and a limited 20-year warranty for commercial applications.

Diamondback is available in Lowe’s stores in California, Nevada, Missouri, Utah, Minnesota, Nebraska, Colorado, Oklahoma, Iowa, Illinois, Montana, Arizona, North Dakota, Kansas, Arkansas, New Mexico and Wyoming.
