Customized Blend of CertainTeed Siding Products Boost Curb Appeal of Kansas Home

(Valley Forge, Pa.) – Mixing and matching vinyl and polymer siding products from CertainTeed’s industry-leading Freedom of Choice™ product portfolio, Bill and Mavis Hutchings, of Olathe, Kan., recently gave their two-story home a stunning makeover. The couple wanted to update their home’s exterior with a more architectural look, featuring low-maintenance materials with the authentic look of wood siding that would never need painting. For help in their selection, they consulted contractor JoCo Siding & Window Co., Inc., of Olathe, Kan.
With the help of ColorView®, a CertainTeed online visualization tool accessible from the manufacturer’s website, the contractor showed the homeowners a vast variety of siding product and accent options, as well as a broad palette of colors available. ColorView allows users to upload a photo of a home to find the perfect color combination and choose from the most comprehensive exterior product selection in the industry to create a complete, customized look. The program helped the homeowners select the siding product blend that best represented their own personal style, with Cedar Impressions® Double 7-inch Straight Edge Rough-Split Vinyl Shakes in Sable Brown, CedarBoards™ Single 7-inch XL Insulated Polymer Siding in Natural Clay, and Ironmax™ Double 5-inch Vertical Siding, also in Natural Clay.
“Through CertainTeed’s Freedom of Choice portfolio, we were able to offer the Hutchings an excellent variety of siding product and color options to choose from, and ColorView helped them to narrow down their choices,” says Justin Christie, salesman for JoCo Siding & Window Co. “It gave them a view of the project before it was even started. When you’re investing in a completely new exterior for your home, you want to be sure you’re getting exactly what you want, and this tool helped them to do that.”
JoCo Siding & Window Co. installed a total of 45 squares of siding last June between the three CertainTeed products, as well as new windows. The Cedar Impressions shakes and CedarBoards lap siding were installed on the front of the home, with the Cedar Impressions serving as an accent on the second floor. The contractor installed the Ironmax soffit upright on the sides and back of the home to create a grooved vertical siding look. All told, the job took 14 days with a two-person crew. The results were a huge hit with the homeowners.
Mavis Hutchings, currently serving in the U.S. Army, was deployed to Kuwait before the project was completed. However, the vibrant, new exterior welcomed her home in style when she returned on a furlough a few months later.
“I love the look of the new siding and windows, and we’ve received several compliments from our neighbors and friends,” Hutchings says. “I was also extremely happy with the wide variety of product and color options CertainTeed had to offer, as well as their ColorView program. It gave me a very accurate picture of what products and colors were going on my house and helped me choose the exact blend that I wanted. I originally considered a lighter color, but after seeing a preview of it I could instantly see that would have been a big mistake.”
