CertainTeed’s Winnipeg Facility Celebrates 90th Anniversary

Employees recognized as key to helping CertainTeed plant become oldest Gypsum facility in Canada

Winnipeg, Manitoba (December 2019) - Earlier this fall, more than 70 current and former employees gathered at CertainTeed’s Winnipeg facility to celebrate the plant’s 90th anniversary.

CertainTeed’s Winnipeg facility, which manufactures standard and specialty paper-faced gypsum board, is the oldest of six gypsum board facilities across Canada. Under the name Western Gypsum Products Limited, the facility first broke ground in August 1929. In 2005, the facility was acquired by Saint-Gobain and joined the company’s largest building materials company in North America, CertainTeed, in 2007.

“CertainTeed’s legacy is rooted within its employees,” said Richard Juggery, Chief Executive Officer, Saint-Gobain and CertainTeed Canada. “Employees are the key to every success we have as a company, and we’re beyond grateful for those whose contributions here at our Winnipeg facility have helped us impact the comfort and well-being of people’s everyday lives.”

CertainTeed supplies a full range of gypsum products to building professionals and do-it-yourself consumers including standard and specialty paper-faced gypsum board, drywall finishing products, embedded glass reinforced gypsum panels and decorative moldings. CertainTeed gypsum board products are available in a wide selection to suit any construction application.

“We’re proud to celebrate 90 years of operation, especially in an industry that has faced challenges to keep up with market demands while creating new and innovative products,” said Al Perez, Plant Manager, CertainTeed Winnipeg. “Our employees here today – and those who have retired but are celebrating alongside us – are a testament that working together as a team is the key for our success and will keep us moving forward.”

CertainTeed has served the North American building industry for more than 90 years and is a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, the world’s leading producer of gypsum products. This, in combination with the full range of affiliated CertainTeed building products, provides architects, contractors, builders and dealers one partner to provide service and support for commercial and residential building projects.
