(Valley Forge, Pa.) – CertainTeed Corporation is expanding its Roofing Responsibly™ shingle recycling program to Illinois and Wisconsin through a new partnership with Southwind RAS, LLC. The program offers an environmentally friendly option for shingle disposal by collecting, recycling, and transforming the shingles into road paving materials.

“The Roofing Responsibly program — which helps keep old shingles out of landfills and put them to good use — reflects our overarching commitment to environmental responsibility, which includes sustainable manufacturing practices, innovative product development and beneficial reuse programs,” says Bob Gardiner, vice president of marketing for CertainTeed Roofing. “And, by offering a wide array of CertainTeed roofing options that are ENERGY STAR® certified as well as solar roofing solutions, homeowners can further their commitment to going green even more.”

To participate in the Roofing Responsibly program, homeowners can visit www.certainteed.com to locate a CertainTeed credentialed contractor that will help them select their new shingles and facilitate the recycling process. Once the contractor removes the old shingles, they will transport them to the nearest Southwind RAS location, which uses a separation and grinding process to make the recycled product suitable for use in road paving applications. Homeowners will receive a certificate from CertainTeed confirming the shingles have been recycled.

CertainTeed is home to 10 roofing manufacturing facilities throughout the United States that are fully engaged in reducing the company’s environmental footprint. Collectively, the plants divert more than 250,000 tons of waste a year from landfills. In addition to asphalt shingles, CertainTeed Roofing offers innovative products that significantly boost the energy efficiency of a home, including Landmark Solaris™ solar reflective shingles and the Apollo® photovoltaic roofing system. For the fourth consecutive year, CertainTeed’s efforts have been recognized through the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year program.

About Southwind RAS
Southwind RAS, LLC specializes in recycling asphalt shingles from residential homes into a viable road-building product.
