CertainTeed’s Roofing Responsibly™ Program Expands to Connecticut
(Valley Forge, Pa.) – As an extension of their ongoing commitment to sustainability, CertainTeed Corporation is expanding the Roofing Responsibly™ program, which was launched in the suburban Philadelphia area last year, to Connecticut in partnership with the Asphalt Roof Recycling Center in Stratford, Conn.
Through the Roofing Responsibly program, old roofing shingles are collected, recycled and reused to pave new roads. To participate in the program, homeowners can visit www.certainteed.com to locate a CertainTeed credentialed contractor that will help them select their new shingles and facilitate the recycling process. Once the contractor removes the old shingles, they will transport them to the Asphalt Roof Recycling Center, which uses a separation and grinding process to create paving material. Homeowners will receive a certificate from CertainTeed confirming the shingles have been recycled.
“More than 12 million tons of asphalt shingle waste went into landfills last year. With the Roofing Responsibly program, CertainTeed is helping homeowners keep old shingles out of landfills and put them to good use,” said Paul Batt, director of product marketing for CertainTeed Roofing. “Homeowners can also further their commitment to going green by selecting from a wide array of CertainTeed roofing options that are ENERGY STAR® certified, including Landmark Solaris solar reflective shingles.”
CertainTeed is helping to improve the environment through responsible manufacturing practices and the development of sustainable building products. The company recycles nearly 90 percent of manufacturing production waste at their roofing plants, incorporates recycled materials into their products and, as a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, plays an active role in the green building movement. For the third consecutive year, CertainTeed’s efforts have been recognized through the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year program.
