CertainTeed’s Roofing Plant in Norwood, Mass., Achieves ISO 14001 Certification, Strengthens Commitment to Sustainability

(Valley Forge, Pa.) – Affirming its strong commitment to maintaining environmentally responsible manufacturing facilities across the country, CertainTeed Corporation’s local roofing plant in Norwood, Mass., has achieved the globally recognized International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 certification.

ISO 14001 standards were created to help companies minimize their environmental impact and achieve continual improvement of environmental performance. At the Norwood roofing plant, a “green team” has been organized to focus on recycling and reducing waste. In addition, for the past two years the plant has been recognized by its parent company, Saint Gobain, with an Excellence in Energy Efficiency award for reducing energy use at the plant by over six percent each year.

“The ISO certification provides us with a structured way to keep our procedures on track and current,” said Tom Rigas, plant manager at CertainTeed’s Norwood roofing plant. “Each employee at the plant has environmental responsibilities and because of this, our overall excellence is improved.”

To secure the globally recognized certification, CertainTeed developed a formalized environmental management system that underwent rigorous review by a third party auditor. The Norwood plant and its 85 employees manufacture a wide array of quality CertainTeed roofing products, including Landmark™, Landmark™ Premium, XT™ 25, XT™ 30 and Shadow Ridge™ shingles.

CertainTeed is home to 12 roofing facilities throughout the United States that are fully engaged in reducing the company’s environmental footprint. Collectively, the plants divert more than 250,000 tons of waste a year from landfills. In addition to asphalt shingles, CertainTeed offers innovative products that significantly boost the energy efficiency of a home, including Landmark Solaris™ solar reflective shingles and the EnerGen™ photovoltaic roofing system.
