(Valley Forge, Pa.) – CertainTeed Ceilings was honored at the 2013 Ceilings and Interior Systems Construction Association (CISCA) Convention in San Antonio, Texas on March 21, receiving three Construction Excellence Awards for projects utilizing the company's Decoustics custom acoustic solutions. The award-winning projects serve as a showcase for professionals in the interiors industry, demonstrating how CertainTeed’s ceilings systems achieve acoustically sound and sustainable environments for better healing, greater productivity and occupant comfort.

Decoustics custom ceilings received a Gold award in the Acoustical Solutions category for the new Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children in Birmingham, Ala., and a Bronze award in the Ceilings category for the remodel of Boston-based growth equity firm Summit Partners' office space. In the Boutique category, which recognizes unique interior projects less than 10,000 square feet, Decoustics earned Bronze honors for the new visitor center at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden in Brooklyn, NY.

"Decoustics' high-precision, custom-engineered solutions can help architects achieve any design they can dream up," said Christian Kellett, director of sales for CertainTeed Ceilings, Decoustics. "These three projects each presented unique challenges, but in the end the project teams were able to complete award-winning work with the help of our products."

For construction of two floors of the 785,000 sq. ft. Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children, the architect specified a Decoustics custom-designed Ceilencio suspension system with sound-absorbent Claro fiberglass ceiling panels to create curved interior walls. Claro's acoustically transparent coating provides superb sound absorption and the classic appearance of painted drywall or plaster. The panels' bright white finish also provides superior light reflectance, maximizing daylighting in the space. Strict precision during the engineering and design process was critical, as the slightest error would have thrown the ceiling off course and made it impossible for the panels to fit properly. However, detailed photographs and measurements using 3D laser technology enabled a flawless installation.

For Summit Partners' office remodel, the architect specified an eye-catching boardroom ceiling featuring a complex "sawtooth" pattern composed of V-shaped Quadrillo wood veneer acoustic ceiling panels in a custom Ceilencio suspension system. Quadrillo's unique patented perforation technology and high-performance core provide superior acoustics, and a number of available natural wood finishes make it an ideal solution for both ceiling and wall designs. The trapezoidal shape of the boardroom and the slope of the panels presented challenges, but Decoustics worked closely with the project team to complete the complex installation.

Taking inspiration from its surroundings, the ceiling design for the Brooklyn Botanical Garden's new visitor center atrium was designed to resemble a large, inverted, free-floating palm leaf, assembled from several sloping triangular Claro panels in a Ceilencio grid. The dramatic design was made possible by Ceilencio's individualized "butterfly" clips, which are custom engineered for each application to accommodate ceiling panels of any shape or size. As the space would be a premier event venue, Claro's high sound absorption and light reflectance helped ensure excellent acoustics and daylighting.
