CertainTeed Supports Homes for Our Troops in V.A., Donates Fiberglass Insulation

(Fredericksburg, Va.) – To support and show appreciation to two Fredericksburg, Va. veterans severely injured in Iraq combat operations, CertainTeed Corporation recently donated insulation to Homes for Our Troops, a national non-profit organization dedicated to building specially adapted, no-cost homes for severely injured veterans. The insulation was used in two separate 2,600-square-foot single-level homes specially outfitted for maximum freedom of movement for local heroes Army Sergeant Jude Recendez and Marine Sergeant Kenny Lyon.
CertainTeed, which was made aware of the project through local distributor Cary Quality, is proud to help the Recendez and Lyon families.
“Homes for Our Troops is a program that does more than just build mortgage-free houses that allow those who made such a sacrifice for our country the chance to live more independently,” said Rob Brockman, senior marketing communications manager for CertainTeed Insulation. “This donation goes one step further by providing proven building materials that will contribute to a more comfortable and cost-saving, energy efficient indoor environment — for the life of the home.”
The homes were constructed by volunteer teams of skilled laborers, led by contractor Atlantic Builders and were completed in two separate four-day “Build Brigades” in April 2011. Each day, approximately 100 volunteers were on site to build, paint and landscape, working round the clock and refueled by donated meals and soldiers’ incredible stories of survival.
Insulation donated includes thermally efficient CertainTeed® Kraft-faced Fiber Glass Insulation for the walls and ceilings and CertainTeed® InsulSafe® Blowing Wool Insulation in the attics.
