CertainTeed Offers Industry-Leading Expertise in Spray Foam Insulation to Pittsburgh Job Corps Career Training
(Valley Forge, Pa.) – CertainTeed Corporation recently partnered with the Pittsburgh Job Corps, a no-cost education and vocational training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, to educate young adults on the application and handling of polyurethane spray foam insulation. As the provider of CertaSpray spray foam insulation, CertainTeed offers the most robust training and technical support program in the industry, making the company a natural partner for teaching these students about careers in the field and offering technical skills that will help them gain employment in the growing industry.
“Because of its superior thermal and air barrier performance, spray foam insulation is becoming an increasingly popular option for builders looking to meet stringent energy guidelines,” said Ed Pentz, sales technical manager for CertainTeed Insulation. “If they’re willing to put in the time and effort to learn the trade, these students will find that their new skills are in high demand. We’ve even been able to place a few of our graduates directly into positions with our customers.”
Pentz and CertainTeed Territory Manager Mike Vrabel partnered to offer the one-day training, which included sessions on spray foam safety, storage, application and troubleshooting; as well as hands-on experience applying CertaSpray to a mock wall cavity. The session also included basic career advice such as interviewing techniques and general workplace etiquette.
“It was a real pleasure working with these kids and watching them develop new skills that will give them an invaluable edge in today’s green building industry,” Pentz said.
CertaSpray is available in both open-cell and closed-cell formulations and is an excellent solution for creating tight air barriers and insulating hard-to-reach areas, such as cathedral ceilings, knee walls and roof decks. CertaSpray is backed by industry-leading training and technical support to ensure contractors, architects and builders are up-to-speed on the latest installation techniques and safety measures so every application achieves maximum results. CertainTeed’s experts regularly hold workshops throughout the country covering everything from the history and chemical properties of spray foam insulation to its safe handling and storage. Additionally, CertainTeed’s instructor Ed Pentz administered nearly 300 certifications through the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) online safety course.
