CertainTeed Expands Distribution of NorthGate® SBS-Modified Asphalt Roofing Shingle

Due to increased demand, cold weather-friendly shingle is now available in 14 additional North American states and provinces

NorthGate

(Malvern, Pa.) – A positive response to the limited introduction of its NorthGate® SBS-modified asphalt shingle in 2015 has led CertainTeed Roofing to expand the product’s availability. Previously offered in Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia, the product is now also available in North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and select areas of Nebraska, Michigan and Ontario.

“The response from our limited launch last year showed us that NorthGate has real staying power—in more ways than one,” said Alex Pecora, director of residential product marketing for CertainTeed Roofing. “NorthGate offers rugged weatherability, perfect for the harsh winters of the North Central states and provinces, as well as maximum curb appeal. We are excited to expand production to meet growing demand in a region that will truly benefit from it.”

NorthGate is engineered to endure harsh, cold-weather elements that are an ongoing threat to the integrity and longevity of residential roofs. The shingle’s SBS-polymer-modified composition allows it to remain flexible at temperatures as low as 0°F (18°C) enhancing its weatherability and making it easier to install in cold climates.

The two-piece laminated fiberglass-based shingle also meets the requirements of UL 2218 Class 4 for impact resistance – the highest rating possible. When tested against a standard asphalt shingle, NorthGate demonstrates a 40 percent improvement in tear strength and nail pull-through resistance, and a 15 percent increase in granule retention.

In addition to its exceptional strength, NorthGate features a rich mixture of surface granules that deliver vibrant, maximum-definition curb appeal and create a dimensional appearance similar to that of natural wood or slate. It is available in seven classic Max Def colors: Burnt Sienna, Granite Gray, Heather Blend, Moire Black, Hunter Green, Resawn Shake and Weathered Wood.

The 270 pound-per-square shingle comes with a comprehensive lifetime warranty, including a 15-year StreakFighter® warranty, 10-year SureStart™ protection, and 15-year 110 mph wind-resistance warranty. A wind warranty upgrade to 130 mph is available when NorthGate is installed with its companion hip and ridge accessory, NorthGate Ridge, and CertainTeed starter shingles.
