CertainTeed Broadens High-Performance HVAC Insulation Product Line With ToughGard® R Rotary Duct Liner
New Sustainable Binder Combines Outstanding Environmental Performance with Superior Cutability and Handling
(Valley Forge, Pa.) – CertainTeed is strengthening its line of high-performance HVAC insulation products with the addition of ToughGard® R Rotary Duct Liner. Combining the trusted thermal, acoustical and moisture control performance of the ToughGard liner airstream surface with a sustainable fiberglass matt, ToughGard R is an ideal solution for helping to ensure high indoor environmental quality and occupant comfort.
"Improving the way we manufacture our rotary duct liner product dovetails perfectly with our focus on indoor air quality and product life cycle sustainability, while ensuring superior performance; ToughGard R is what our customers have come to expect," said Jim Voitel, HVAC product manager for CertainTeed Insulation. "The new ToughGard R product achieves both of these goals while strengthening CertainTeed’s position as a trusted source for comprehensive insulation solutions."
ToughGard R is manufactured with a commitment to environmental stewardship, as well as rigorous monitoring and energy management that reduces the amount of energy needed to produce it. The duct liner now features a sustainable plant-based binder that contains no added formaldehyde, acrylics, or dyes, and is GREENGUARD Gold Certified for low chemical emissions. Its main raw material is sand, an inert, abundant and naturally renewing resource, and it includes a high percentage of recycled glass.
In addition to contributing to LEED® and other green building standards, the new fiberglass formulation makes the product easier to work with and install. The company's field-proven airstream surface and mat makes hand or machine cutting easy, resulting in clean, crisp edges. The durable, black surface is also water repellent, highly cleanable, and contains an EPA-registered antimicrobial agent to ward off potential for mold and microbial growth on the liner surface.
ToughGard R absorbs equipment and air rush noise over a broad spectrum of sound by trapping and dissipating it within the glass fiber matrix, contributing to better interior acoustics. It also provides excellent thermal-insulating properties and lower HVAC operating costs by reducing energy consumption. Its thermal properties help control condensation, which helps improve indoor air quality by reducing unwanted moisture.
CertainTeed is the only manufacturer with a truly comprehensive line of insulation products and equipment, including time-tested and trusted fiberglass insulation batts and rolls, fiberglass blow-in insulation, polyurethane spray foam, innovative vapor retarder technology, and highly regarded HVAC products as well as insulation blowing and foam application equipment. All of CertainTeed’s insulation products can help building professionals qualify toward credits for both the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the Green Building Standard supported by the National Association of Home Builders.
