CertainTeed and B&L Wholesale Supply Partner to Provide a Vibrant, Resilient Exterior for Pioneering New York Pediatric Medical Respite Program
(Valley Forge, Pa.) – CertainTeed Corporation recently teamed up with B&L Wholesale Supply, Inc., to provide a vibrant, resilient exterior for a pioneering, new pediatric medical day respite center in Rochester, N.Y., through a donation of CertainTeed® WeatherBoards™ fiber cement siding products. A Rochester-based building products distributor, B&L Wholesale Supply learned early on that Daystar for Medically Fragile Children, Inc., was seeking donations toward the construction of its new facility and enlisted CertainTeed’s help.
“I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to involve some of the building product manufacturers we do business with,” says Don Tomeny, president of B&L Wholesale Supply. “We contacted CertainTeed, and they were more than willing to help out. It’s nice when we can raise money for local charities, but it’s even better when we’re able to get our manufacturer partners involved.”
The center was custom-built last year by Rochester general contractor Di Marco Contractors. The siding installation was subcontracted to Sattora Siding, also of Rochester. Working with a crew of six, Sattora Siding installed 60 squares of WeatherBoards smooth lap siding, soffit and trimboards on the daycare center to create a colorful yellow and white custom-painted exterior with enough resilience to withstand upstate New York winters. The contractor was pleased with his first experience installing WeatherBoards.
“We found that it lays flatter than other fiber cement products we’ve installed in the past,” says David Sattora, owner of Sattora Siding. “It’s a nice product, and my crew loved working with it.”
And, many others have been impressed with the WeatherBoards siding as well. Since Daystar opened earlier this year, it has received glowing reviews for its colorful exterior.
